Product Focus: UDY Protein Analyzer

calfOn the blog, we have dealt with the topic of protein numerous times. Why? Well, protein is on our customers’ minds. This nutritional focal point is not only about our diets; it is also about the food production processes that bring these products to our plates.

For example, farmers want to make sure that their livestock is getting the best nutrition available. The proper nutrition of animals not only assists in their well-being, but also helps to create quality food end-products. Protein, as it is for humans, is an essential in animal diets and in the growth and maintenance of livestock, including in the feeding/raising of calves.

That is one of the reasons that our Lab area features the UDY Protein Analyzer, a tool used by many feed operations and farms. The UDY measures protein using Acid Orange Dye.   It also differentiates between non-protein nitrogen, vestigial pieces of intact protein molecules, and functional proteins. Instead of measuring via digestion methods based on nitrogen, the technology is based on functional binding sites of amino acids lysine, histidine, and arginine, considered essential amino acids in the diet of the non-ruminant calf.

An exclusive to Nelson-Jameson, the UDY is aimed at farmers and small businesses where on-site testing is ideal. Are you interested in getting your hands on this “hands-on approach”? You can check out the UDY Protein Analyzer on our website.  For further information, contact our Laboratory Products Department at 800-826-8302.

Product Focus: Lining Up for the Kill – Fighting Pathogens with the “HACCP Defender”

1002844To amend a famous phrase: “Nothing can be said to be certain, except death, taxes…and pathogens.” That is right. These tenacious little trouble makers are constantly knocking at our doors in the food industry. It is hard not to resent their tenacity and the ill effects they bring with them on a daily basis. However, there is hope! Get ready to give our microscopic mischief makers the boot!

A new tool in the fight against pathogens called the “HACCP Defender Boot Sanitizing System” will have your employees lining up to focus on this very issue.  The HACCP Defender is a walk-in station that utilizes the proven power of Alpet D2 Surface Sanitizer to thoroughly treat employees’ boots before they walk into critical areas of your operation.

The HAACP Defender uses infrared sensors to operate control doors and sprayers, that combined are designed to ensure boots get a thorough application of ALPET D2. Featuring stainless steel construction, the walk-in design reduces chemical waste and controls moisture, ensuring a safe and easy way to combat the threat of pathogens on a daily basis.

Product Focus: Nilfisk Vacuums, Explosion-Proof Industrial Safety

D07F8194While sitting and reading this, you can probably look around and find something dusty. Maybe it is the top of your screen or the top of your keyboard. Dust can be annoying. Dusting is a necessary annoyance. It may be hard to think of it as a critical hazard, though. However, “dust” takes on a whole new meaning when it comes to plant maintenance. If you are one of the 30,000 U.S facilities at risk for combustible dust explosions, dust may be a significant threat to your employees and your operation.

According to Nilfisk Industrial Vacuums, “Regardless of industry or material, combustible dust can be formed from milling, sanding, grinding, crushing, cutting – or simply handling product in powder form.” One might not realize the potential danger combustible dusts possess and or even what exactly is considered “combustible.”  For example, grain dust, perhaps a harmless sounding material to the layman, is “nine times as explosive as coal dust.” Such insights should cause us all in the food industry to step back and think about the safety of our employees, our operations, and the materials that surround us. Unfortunately, the threat extends beyond explosions, too. In fact, dust can cause fires as well, which are “the most common dust-related incidents.”

If you are curious or want to know more about combustible dust explosions and precautions used to prevent such occurrences click here.

Presently, Nilfisk and Nelson-Jameson, Inc. are working together to bring you a line of vacuums to combat this threat. Nilfisk’s line of Explosion-Proof Electric and Pneumatic Vacuums are built to take on combustible dust, helping to improve sanitation and assisting in complying with OSHA standards.  You can see these two lines of vacuums and numerous other Nilfisk vacuums and accessories in this catalog. Nelson-Jameson product managers can also assist you in finding the right vacuum and accessories for your facility. Give us a call today at 1-800-826-8302 to order or for more info.
