Focusing on Food Safety

Industry focus on food safety turns to Anaheim, California this August. The International Association for Food Protection’s Annual Meeting runs August 1st-4th. The IAFP’s mission is “To provide food safety professionals worldwide with a forum to exchange information on protecting the food supply” (“Mission Statement”). The annual meeting creates a face-to-face forum for exactly that, and “is attended by over 1,800 of the top industry, academic and government food safety professionals” (“2010 Annual Meeting”).

If you’re heading to Anaheim for the IAFP, stop by our booth (#509) in the Anaheim Convention Center! We are proud of our extensive lines of products and services meant to address food safety concerns/issues. Stop by just to say “hi” or for information on how we can be your one-stop supply source for all of your food safety needs.

Special Delivery: Brand New Buyer’s Guide

As I hand out new catalogs every year to Nelson-Jameson employees, I affectionately refer to them as my “catalog babies”. This year was my third catalog baby and boy was it healthy! It is bigger and fatter than any of my previous “babies” with 40 extra pages of products! And just like with any other “baby” it takes a village to “raise” it.

People might not realize, but it takes 16 NJ employees (2 marketing support, 10 product managers, and 4 product administrators) about 6 months to create the Nelson-Jameson Buyers Guide. We go through every product with a fine-tooth comb to ensure accurate, helpful descriptions, images and product tips. Product managers work all year with our vendors to add innovative new products to our lines. While I sometimes find myself shaking a fist at my computer screen late into the night during catalog season, I am always happy with the end product. We put a lot of work into creating a catalog that is easy for our customers to use and helps them get their jobs done better. That is why we are here, not just to provide products, but to be a resource for our customers. So, hopefully you have received your new 2010-2011 Buyers Guide. And, if you have, take a minute to flip through it and see all of the new items we have to offer.  We hope you like it!

Increased Raw Milk Sales: Good or Bad?

Irregardless of our personal opinions this is certainly an issue of spirited debate, having many implications involving food safety, free market concerns, product availability to satisfy consumer demand, cash-flow for dairy producers, etc. The debate is settled for now with our Governor’s recent veto to allow expansion of sales, however committees and industry experts will continue to debate issues of concern and make recommendations again in the not so distant future.

Whatever is ultimately decided, Nelson-Jameson stands ready to supply products that are and will be required for milk testing and handling. The versatility of our product offering and service is a great strength as we continue to expand our business and move forward.
